Milestones : 1976-1983

1976-83: Fr. C.P. Varkey era: In the very first year of his assuming office as Principal, Fr C.P.Varkey S.J. revitalized the system of weekly tests, introduced weekly quiz programme for std. VI to VIII, provided for professional training for a total of 200 students in cricket, hockey and basketball, raised funds for 25 full or partial scholarships, paved the way for the birth of the bi-weekly newsletter LENS, added the SSLC curriculum, raised the bar of excellence by producing 5 out of 35 NTS scholars in Kerala and kept up the tradition of 100% first class pass in all board exams. And in the years that followed he improved upon the record in every field and brought in many more reforms too — like simplification of the school uniform, introduction of a number of service squads, ensuring that around 80 to 90% of students took part in the youth festival and around 75 students enjoyed fee concession and that the whole school was shown a film every fortnight. The major construction during his tenure was the Western wing of the ICSE block at the cost of a little over Rs. 17 lakhs.
